All 5 councils we cover in the North charge a 100% premium on furnished homes that are nobody’s main residence. Stockport only charges it once a home has been furnished and empty for a year. A short let that qualifies for business rates pays those instead. See every council
Check your mortgage lender and, for a flat, your lease allow short lets, and you will need short-let insurance. We go through all three with you on the first call.
England's short-let register is due by March 2027, a home let for at least 70 nights a year (and available for 140) pays business rates instead of council tax, and the furnished holiday lettings tax regime ended in April 2025. Read our guide to the rules
