Pinderfields Hospital
The main hospital of Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, which cares for more than half a million people a year. Pinderfields is a major trauma unit and home to the Yorkshire Regional Spinal Injuries Centre, one of only 12 in the UK, and the regional burns service.
A new city centre
Wakefield Council plans to replace The Ridings Shopping Centre with a Cathedral Quarter of more than 1,000 homes, a cinema, library and museum, built in stages over 10 to 15 years. The Civic Quarter’s last new homes, on Rishworth Street, are due to finish in 2026.
The Hepworth and Yorkshire Sculpture Park
The Hepworth Wakefield, by David Chipperfield Architects, opened in 2011 and was Art Fund Museum of the Year in 2017. Yorkshire Sculpture Park covers 500 acres, a mile from junction 38 of the M1.

Planning in Wakefield
We found no Wakefield planning policy aimed at short lets. Since 24 October 2025, an Article 4 direction has required permission to turn a family home into a small HMO (a shared house) in six areas. They include Agbrigg, College Grove, Lincoln Street and Peterson Road in Wakefield. The district’s other directions cover three conservation areas and a single property, and none covers short lets.
Rules across England
England's short-let register is due by March 2027, a home let for at least 70 nights a year (and available for 140) pays business rates instead of council tax, and the furnished holiday lettings tax regime ended in April 2025. Read our guide to the rules
