Windsor Castle and Changing the Guard
The oldest and largest occupied castle in the world is open to visitors all year. Changing the Guard takes place from 11am on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
LEGOLAND Windsor Resort
It has more than 55 rides and attractions. The main season runs from March to early November, then LEGOLAND at Christmas opens on selected dates until 2 January 2027.
Heathrow and its third runway plans
Heathrow is close by, which brings business guests and people working at the airport. Its public consultation on a third runway runs from 27 October to 22 December 2026, ahead of a planning application.
Royal Windsor Horse Show and the racecourse
The Royal Windsor Horse Show runs from Thursday 13 to Sunday 16 May 2027 in the private grounds of Windsor Castle. Royal Windsor Racecourse’s 2027 calendar has Monday Night Racing from May to September.

How a short let fills the week in Windsor
A long let pays one rent. A short let is booked by the night or the week, so it can take a work stay in the week and a leisure stay at the weekend, and price each night for the demand.

Council tax in Windsor
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead has charged a 100% premium on furnished homes that are nobody’s main residence since 1 April 2025, so the bill is doubled. There are exceptions, such as homes being actively marketed for sale or let, for up to 12 months. A home that qualifies for business rates pays those instead.
Planning in Windsor
We found no Windsor and Maidenhead planning policy or Article 4 direction aimed at short lets. The borough’s Article 4 directions cover named areas and sites. In Windsor town centre, one means painting the outside of a building needs permission. Outside London, England has no general planning test for short lets yet.
Rules across England
England's short-let register is due by March 2027, a home let for at least 70 nights a year (and available for 140) pays business rates instead of council tax, and the furnished holiday lettings tax regime ended in April 2025. Read our guide to the rules

Yes. The Culture Secretary told Parliament in September 2026 that England’s short-let register will be up and running in full “by March”, which has been reported as March 2027. Every host will need to register, and we do it for you.
Homes near the Castle and the two stations suit weekend visitors and commuters. Family houses in Clewer and Dedworth suit crews and longer stays, and homes near St Leonards Road suit hospital stays. Eton suits families visiting the college.
The Royal Windsor Horse Show in May, Monday Night Racing and the summer holidays bring the peaks. LEGOLAND’s Brick or Treat in October and its Christmas season carry leisure stays into winter. Construction and hospital stays keep weekdays steady, and insurance stays peak in winter.
